This customer was planning on having an AC unit installed, but the heating and cooling company told him that his electrical panel was not sufficient for the install. The type of electrical panel that this customer had was a Federal Pacific Electric panel, which are known to have a high risk of breaker malfunction and fire. This means that when the system is overloaded and the breaker malfunctions, it can't trip and shut off the power, which can lead to fires. Because the addition of the AC unit requires much more power in the home than normal, it is important to make sure that the electrical panel can handle the amount of electricity. It is likely that the system would not have been able to handle the extra power being used, which makes the risk of electrical overload far greater, and because of the panel that this homeowner had, it put his house and family in danger of a fire.
